Calcium hypochlorite is a powerful oxidizing and bleaching agent sold as a white solid with a strong chlorine smell. It contains 65-70% available chlorine, making it much more concentrated than liquid bleach. It is the primary chemical used for pool 'shocking' and water disinfection.
