Genel Bakış
Radium-226 emits an alpha particle to form radon-222 gas. Radium was discovered by Marie and Pierre Curie in 1898 and was the first radioactive element isolated in pure form. Marie Curie won two Nobel Prizes for her work on radioactivity. Radium's decay produces radon, a radioactive gas.

Günlük Örnek
Radon gas produced by radium decay in soil seeps into basements and is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.
Endüstriyel Önemi
Radium was historically used in luminous watch dials and cancer therapy. Radon monitoring in homes is now standard practice.
