Ikhtisar
Phosphorus pentoxide is the most powerful desiccant (drying agent) known. It is so hygroscopic that it reacts violently with water, producing phosphoric acid and considerable heat. It is used to dry gases and solvents and as a dehydrating agent in organic synthesis.
