CH3COOH ⇌ CH3COO− + H+
Ikhtisar
The acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer system resists pH changes by shifting equilibrium in response to added acid or base. When acid is added, acetate ions consume H⁺; when base is added, acetic acid donates H⁺. This buffer is most effective near pH 4.75 (the pKa of acetic acid). The Henderson-Hasselbalch equation governs the buffer pH.
Peserta
| Peran | Zat | Koefisien | Keadaan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reaktan | Acetic Acid CH₃COOH | 1 | (aq) |
Contoh Sehari-hari
Vinegar-based salad dressings maintain their characteristic sour taste because the acetic acid/acetate system buffers the pH around 4.75.
Pentingnya dalam Industri
Acetate buffers are widely used in biochemistry laboratories, in textile dyeing processes, and in food processing to maintain consistent pH.
