Ikhtisar
Aluminum reacts with oxygen to form aluminum oxide (alumina). While aluminum appears resistant to corrosion, it actually oxidizes instantly in air, forming a thin protective oxide layer that prevents further reaction. Powdered aluminum burns vigorously in oxygen.
