Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is one of the most widely used anionic surfactants. It creates the foamy lather in toothpaste, shampoo, and soap. In biochemistry, it is used in SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis to denature proteins and give them uniform charge.
