What is SMILES?
SMILES (Simplified Molecular-Input Line-Entry System) is a notation for describing molecular structures as text strings. It encodes atoms, bonds, rings, and stereochemistry in a compact, human-readable format.
| Símbolo | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
C, N, O, S | Atoms (carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur) | CCO = ethanol |
= | Double bond | C=O = formaldehyde |
# | Triple bond | C#N = hydrogen cyanide |
c (lowercase) | Aromatic atom | c1ccccc1 = benzene |
( ) | Branch | CC(=O)O = acetic acid |
1, 2... | Ring closure | C1CCCCC1 = cyclohexane |
