Sn2+ + 2Fe3+ → Sn4+ + 2Fe2+
Visão geral
Tin(II) ions reduce iron(III) to iron(II) while being oxidized to tin(IV). Stannous chloride (SnCl₂) is a widely used reducing agent in analytical chemistry. This redox reaction is used to pre-reduce iron(III) before titration with permanganate or dichromate.

Exemplo do cotidiano
SnCl₂ is used in the mirror silvering process and as a sensitizer before electroless plating of plastics.
Importância industrial
O cloreto de estanho(II) é utilizado em estanhagem, como agente redutor em síntese orgânica, na produção de espelhos e em química analítica.
