Tổng quan
Ethylene burns in air with a luminous flame to form carbon dioxide and water. While ethylene can be burned as fuel, it is far more valuable as a chemical feedstock. It is the world's most-produced organic chemical, primarily used for polyethylene plastic.

Ví dụ thực tế
Ethylene is produced naturally by ripening fruit, which is why placing a banana in a paper bag with unripe fruit hastens ripening.
Tầm quan trọng công nghiệp
Over 200 million tonnes of ethylene are produced annually, making it the highest-volume organic chemical. It is the monomer for polyethylene, the world's most common plastic.
