The name dubnium points to Dubna, the Russian town that hosts the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, one of the two laboratories responsible for most transactinide discoveries. The element holds atomic number 105 and a relative atomic mass of 268.0, and its configuration [Rn] 5f14 6d3 7s2 places it in group 5 of period 7, the transition-metal column headed by vanadium. Only minute quantities have ever been produced, and no electronegativity value has been established. Like its neighbours in the transactinide region, dubnium exists for a matter of seconds at most, so experimental chemistry is limited to techniques that can identify a single atom during the interval before it decays.
