Element 50 is a malleable post-transition metal in group 14 of period 5, within the p-block, with an atomic mass of 118.71, the electron configuration [Kr] 4d¹⁰ 5s² 5p², and a Pauling electronegativity of 1.96. Alloyed with copper it forms bronze, and it remains ubiquitous today in soft solders and in the corrosion-resistant tin plating that protects steel food cans. Tin is solid at standard conditions and notable for its low melting point relative to most metals.
