El estroncio es un metal alcalinotérreo que produce una llama roja intensa. Se usa en fuegos artificiales, bengalas y pasta dentífrica para dientes sensibles.

Acerca de Estroncio

Known for the brilliant red flame it produces when burned, strontium is an alkaline earth metal of atomic number 38 and atomic mass 87.62. Two valence electrons ([Kr] 5s2) give it an electronegativity of 0.95, and the element is a solid under standard conditions. Strontium belongs to group 2, period 5, directly below calcium, which it resembles chemically; like calcium it forms a doubly charged ion and, being reactive, is found only in combined form. Its characteristic flame color underlies a long history of use in fireworks and signal flares, and strontium compounds are also incorporated into toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth.
