El darmstadtio debe su nombre a Darmstadt, Alemania, donde se sintetizó por primera vez en el Centro Helmholtz GSI.

Acerca de Darmstadtio

Element 110 was first synthesised at the GSI Helmholtz Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, and takes its name from that city. Darmstadtium has a relative atomic mass of 281.0 and the configuration [Rn] 5f14 6d8 7s2, which places it in group 10 of period 7 beneath platinum. No electronegativity has been established and its chemical properties are not characterised, so it is grouped with the elements of unknown behaviour. Production requires the fusion of two lighter nuclei in a heavy-ion accelerator, an event rare enough that the total number of darmstadtium atoms ever created remains small enough to count.
