Naming an element after a living person was without precedent until seaborgium, which honoured Glenn T. Seaborg while he was still working; Seaborg had led the discovery of several transuranium elements himself. The element occupies atomic number 106 with a relative atomic mass of 269.0, and its configuration [Rn] 5f14 6d4 7s2 places it in group 6 of period 7, beneath tungsten. No electronegativity is assigned. Seaborgium is produced only by accelerator synthesis and decays too quickly for bulk properties to be measured, though single-atom experiments have shown its volatile oxide chemistry to resemble that expected of a group 6 transition metal.
