El nobelio debe su nombre a Alfred Nobel, inventor de la dinamita. Es el único actínido que prefiere el estado de oxidación +2.

Acerca de Nobelio

A preference for the +2 oxidation state distinguishes nobelium from every other member of the actinide series, which otherwise favours the +3 state. The anomaly follows from the filled 5f subshell of its [Rn] 5f14 7s2 configuration, which is stable enough that the element gives up only its two 7s electrons in most reactions. Nobelium takes its name from Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, and holds atomic number 102 with a relative atomic mass of 259.0 and an electronegativity of 1.3. It is a solid under standard conditions. The element is synthetic, and its chemistry has been established through aqueous tracer studies conducted on vanishingly small samples.
