El holmio tiene el mayor momento magnético de todos los elementos naturales. Se usa en reactores nucleares y láseres de estado sólido.

Acerca de Holmio

Holmium (Ho) is a soft, silvery lanthanide notable for having the highest magnetic moment of any naturally occurring element. Element 67 occupies period 6 of the f-block, with an atomic mass of 164.93, the electron configuration [Xe] 4f¹¹ 6s², and a Pauling electronegativity of 1.23. This strong magnetism makes holmium useful in the pole pieces of high-field magnets and in nuclear-reactor control. Its sharp optical absorption bands also suit it to solid-state lasers used in medicine and manufacturing. Solid at standard conditions, holmium adopts the +3 oxidation state common to the lanthanides.
