El teneso debe su nombre al estado de Tennessee. Es el segundo halógeno más pesado conocido, aunque su química sigue siendo en gran medida desconocida.

Acerca de Teneso

Group 17 acquired its heaviest known member with tennessine, named for the state of Tennessee in recognition of the laboratories there that supplied target material for its synthesis. The element has atomic number 117 and a relative atomic mass of 294.0, and its configuration [Rn] 5f14 6d10 7s2 7p5 gives it the seven outer electrons characteristic of a halogen. Whether it behaves like one is unresolved: its chemistry is largely unknown, no electronegativity has been assigned, and calculations suggest relativistic effects may make it markedly less halogen-like than its position implies. Every atom so far made has been produced by heavy-ion fusion and observed only through its decay.
