Dopamine is a catecholamine neurotransmitter that plays a central role in reward, motivation, and motor control. It is synthesized from the amino acid tyrosine and is the neurotransmitter depleted in Parkinson's disease. The 'dopamine reward system' drives pleasure and addiction.
