MnSO4 + 2NaOH + H2O2 → MnO2↓ + Na2SO4 + 2H2O
Descripción general
Manganese(II) sulfate is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide in basic solution to form a dark brown precipitate of manganese dioxide. Mn is oxidized from +2 to +4. MnO₂ is highly insoluble and is a very effective catalyst for H₂O₂ decomposition.
Participantes
| Rol | Sustancia | Coeficiente | Estado |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactivo | Hydrogen Peroxide H₂O₂ | 1 | (aq) |
| Reactivo | Sodium Hydroxide NaOH | 2 | (aq) |
| Producto | Sodium Sulfate Na₂SO₄ | 1 | (aq) |

Ejemplo cotidiano
MnO₂ is the black substance in standard alkaline batteries that serves as the cathode material.
Importancia industrial
El dióxido de manganeso se usa en baterías de pila seca y alcalinas, como catalizador, como pigmento y en el tratamiento del agua para la eliminación del hierro y el manganeso.
