2C2H6 + 7O2 → 4CO2 + 6H2O
Descripción general
Ethane burns in oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water. Ethane is the second most abundant component of natural gas (typically 1-6%). It is also cracked to produce ethylene, the world's most-produced organic chemical.
Participantes
| Rol | Sustancia | Coeficiente | Estado |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactivo | Ethane C₂H₆ | 2 | (g) |
| Reactivo | Oxygen O | 7 | (g) |
| Producto | Carbon Dioxide CO₂ | 4 | (g) |
| Producto | Water H₂O | 6 | (l) |
Ejemplo cotidiano
When natural gas burns in your home, a small portion of the combustion is ethane burning alongside the majority methane.
Importancia industrial
El etano es valioso principalmente como materia prima para la producción de etileno mediante craqueo con vapor, en lugar de como combustible. El gas de esquisto estadounidense ha aumentado considerablemente la disponibilidad de etano.
